The Path to Real Functionality: e-Belt™ and netpad®
Attn: Mobile System Integrators, Technology Writers
SEATTLE, Wash.: IEEE International Symposium on Wearable Computers 2002
October 8, 2002; Komposite Presents -A Wearable Technology Fashion Show

Not just fashion statements, the interactive-wireless combination of the e-Belt (Perkins Engineering, Inc.) and the netpad (Psion Teklogix) give mobile workers a new way to manage data and work at the same time. The e-Belt creates a multi-positioned, stable platform at waist level to hold the netpad with its 6.5 inch display. Operators can use both hands to do a job, and retrieve, view, and record data, while standing, walking, climbing, or while monitoring or repairing equipments, or assembling complex machines. Unobtrusive while in use, the e-Belt allows the operator to secure the netpad conveniently out of the way when it is not needed. In a moment, the operator can reposition the e-Belt and access the instant-on netpad.
The e-Belt is a light, strong, comfortable belt with an articulating arm to which operators attach a PDA such as Psion Teklogix's netpad. The articulating arm attaches to the comfortable belt at waist level and allows the operator to position the netpad in a convenient viewing/operating position and work at the same time. This combination uniquely fills the functional gap between pocket devices and luggables (laptops and tablets). Two e-Belt arm designs will be featured in the show, one with Ram-mounts rugged components. The e-Belt works with any PDA, allowing the operator to attach peripherals and batteries to create any kind of wearable wireless platform. The e-Belt permits ready upgrade of electronics. Most importantly, it allows operators to avoid eyepieces and handheld displays that compromise movement and job performance.
